Dosage Form and Packaging

A clear, colorless to light yellow injectable solution supplied in 100 mL glass bottles for intravenous infusion.

Pharmacological Classification:
Antibiotic – Fluoroquinolone group

Indications

Ciprofloxacin is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Gastrointestinal infections
  • Sepsis
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Intra-abdominal infections (in combination with metronidazole)

Dosage and Administration

Adults:
400 mg every 12 hours by slow intravenous infusion over 60 minutes.

Children:
10–20 mg/kg body weight every 12 hours (up to a maximum of 400 mg per day).
Dosage may vary depending on infection type, severity, and renal/hepatic function.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones
  • Children and adolescents during growth (except special cases)
  • Patients with a history of seizures or CNS disorders
  • Pregnancy and lactation (unless prescribed by a doctor)

Precautions

  • Monitor renal function during therapy
  • Avoid direct sunlight exposure (photosensitivity risk)
  • Use cautiously with anticonvulsants, NSAIDs, and theophylline
  • If severe diarrhea occurs, stop treatment and consult a doctor (possible Clostridium difficile colitis)

Drug Interactions

  • Theophylline, cyclosporine, oral anticoagulants, antiarrhythmic drugs (may increase QT prolongation risk)

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Photosensitivity
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Elevated liver enzymes
  • Rare: seizures, severe allergic reactions (anaphylactoid)

Storage Conditions

Store below 25°C, protected from light and freezing.
Do not use after the expiry date.
