Generic Name: Levofloxacin

Classification: Levofloxacin – Antibiotic from the Fluoroquinolone group

Dosage Form:

Intravenous infusion solution (IV Infusion) — each vial contains 500 mg of Levofloxacin in 100 mL of ready-to-use injectable solution.

Indications:

Treatment of respiratory tract infections (both upper and lower), including chronic bronchitis, bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired and hospital-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections (including pyelonephritis), skin and soft tissue infections, and infections caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics.

Dosage and Administration:

Usual adult dose:
500 mg once daily, administered by slow intravenous infusion (over at least 60 minutes).
Duration of treatment: typically 7–14 days, depending on infection severity.

For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustment is required.

Common Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea
• Nervous system: headache, dizziness, insomnia
• Other effects: elevated liver enzymes, photosensitivity (skin sensitivity to sunlight)

Drug Interactions:

• Antacids containing magnesium or aluminum: decrease absorption of the drug
• Warfarin: may increase anticoagulant effect
• Antiarrhythmic drugs: increased risk of QT interval prolongation
• Anticonvulsants: may increase nervous system excitability

Contraindications:

• History of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics
• Pregnancy and lactation, unless prescribed by a qualified physician
• Children and adolescents (due to risk of cartilage damage)

Precautions:

Use with caution in patients with:

• History of allergy to fluoroquinolones
• Renal insufficiency
• Heart problems

Storage Conditions:

Store at temperatures below 25°C, protect from freezing, and keep away from direct sunlight.
