Dosage Form and Packaging:
Each 100 mL contains an isotonic saline solution intended for intravenous infusion, packaged in PVC infusion bags of 250 mL, 500 mL, and 1000 mL.

Pharmacological Classification:
Isotonic normal saline solution.

Indications:
Normal Saline 0.9% is used for:

  • Rehydration and replacement of body fluids,
  • Maintenance or restoration of blood volume,
  • Dilution of injectable medications,
  • Wound irrigation or cleansing of medical instruments.

Dosage and Administration:
The dosage and rate of infusion are determined by the attending physician according to the patient’s condition.

Contraindications:
High blood pressure (hypertension), renal insufficiency, cardiac insufficiency.

Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with severe hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, or renal impairment.

Drug Interactions:

  • Ampicillin, Amphotericin, and Albumin may precipitate in normal saline.
  • Furosemide may form precipitates at high concentrations.
  • Phenytoin is highly incompatible and forms precipitates with normal saline.
  • Ciprofloxacin may also precipitate when mixed with normal saline.

Side Effects:
Fluid retention, electrolyte imbalance, and rare allergic reactions.

Storage Conditions:
Store below 30 °C, protect from freezing.
